Profiling
What is a profile?
Pupils are required to produce a profile at the end of S3. BGE profiling allows pupils to recognise latest and best achievements both in and out of school as well as highlighting the skills they have learned across all the curricular areas. The profile provides pupils with an opportunity to reflect more closely on skills, achievements, strengths and interests as they prepare for life beyond school. A profile will help a young person when completing personal statements for college and university or employment application forms/CVs.
What is an Electronic Profile?
It is an electronic copy of a pupil’s profile which will store all the information they have gathered from your profiling activities. Pupils will create their eprofile in school providing clear statements about their learning and on how they are developing skills across the curriculum.
What will teachers do with the information?
We will access it to find out more information about a pupil. If we know a bit more about our pupils then it can help us support them better when making subject choices. There may be occasions when we will approach pupils to become involved in a project, competition or club as a result of what they have told us.
What are profiling weeks?
All year groups within the BGE each have one focussed profiling week throughout a school session. Teachers allow time in class for discussion about what pupils have learned and the skills they have developed during the year. Pupils are then asked to use these discussions, together with feedback that they have received from teachers and peers, to reflect on their progress across the curriculum and write positive learning statements in their profiling books.
The profiling weeks for this school session are;
S3 Profiling Week: Week beginning 1st October
S2 Profiling Week: Week beginning 3rd December
S1 Profiling Week: Week beginning 29th April
How can parents support profiling?
* asking to see the booklet every evening and taking time to discuss your child’s learning statements with him / her
* encouraging your child to take a real interest and pride in completing the booklet to the best of his / her ability
* encouraging your child to be proud of his / her achievements in and out of school
